What is a g.page review link?

It is the short form Google generates for a verified Business Profile. It redirects to the same write-a-review dialog as the longer Place ID link, and it is short enough to say out loud or print on a card.

Can I shorten the link myself?

Yes. The Place ID link works fine behind any link shortener or a redirect on your own domain, which has the bonus of letting you track clicks. Just make sure whatever you use does not add an interstitial page, because every extra tap loses reviews.

Making a Google review link short enough to use

The raw review URL is long and ugly, which matters more than it sounds: nobody types it, and it looks like spam in a text message. Here are the three ways to shorten it and when each one is the right call.

Option 1: Google's own short link

Verified profiles get a g.page short link from the Ask for reviews button inside the Business Profile. It is the cleanest option and it never breaks, but it only appears when you are signed in as the profile manager.

Option 2: a redirect on your own domain

Point something like yourdomain.com/review at the review URL. It looks trustworthy in a text, you can say it on the phone, and you can change where it points later without reprinting anything. This is what I set up for most clients.

Option 3: a QR code

For anything printed, a code beats a link. Build one with the free Google review QR code maker and put it where the customer is already standing still: the counter, the invoice, the back of the receipt.

One rule before you send it

Send the same link to every customer. Sorting people first so only the happy ones get it is review gating and Google prohibits it. More on what is and is not allowed.
